Pleasurable rose gardening is an activity much sought after but seldom found. Some do it mainly for profit while others find them therapeutic and relaxing, attending to something which grows into beauty gives some people the feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment.

Regardless of why you are doing rose gardening, especially if you are a novice, there are a few things that you need to know. Rose gardening is not a simple task - these delicate flowers require your attention and dedication. Firstly, you have to choose which roses it is that you want to plant, but you can't just pick any variety - you have to take into consideration factors like growing conditions, garden size and quality of your soil, etc.

After picking the roses that you want to plant, you have to prepare your spot. This involves picking and preparing a good piece of soil for plantation. A good site should receive a dose of sun in the morning and reasonable shade in the afternoon. Drained soil is a must, poor drainage or "wet feet" will mean the end for your roses. Although roses would do well in most soil types, having a high organic content will be better. Ensure that  the pH levels of your soil is 6.0 - 7.0.
 

 

 

Remember that if you're going to use bare root roses in your garden, try to buy them as close as possible to your planting time. You have to soak them in water for 8 to 12 hours to help re-hydrate the plant. You will also have to "sweat" the canes after planting them to avoid drying the canes up, most gardeners just put a moist brown paper bag over the canes.

An easy alternative is potted roses, which are easier to plant and are ready for planting the whole season. Take them out of the container and put it in a hole deep enough to accommodate the root ball. After you have prepared and planted, your rose gardening activities will mainly consist of mulching, pruning, fertilizing and watering. Do your research to ensure that ongoing pleasurable rose gardening.
